Product Description

Eyre and Spottiswoode, London, 1929. Hardcover. Book Condition: Good. Colour and b & w illustrations by Philip Rickman (illustrator). First Edition. Hardcover. 186pp. Some shelfwear, light general soiling, and occasional chipping to edges and corners, light loss to spine-ends. Slight cocking to spine. Contents unmarked. Very scarce. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.  The glory of the moors in mid-August, partridge on the golden stuble in September, the reds and the bronzes of the covert side in November, blue sky and racing cloud overhead and frost tang in the air;  birds rising well over the screen trees and coming down wind at a swerving forty miles an hour; snipe rising from the bogs of a lonely Irish mountain, duck flighting in before a north-easterly gale over mud flats and salt marches of an estuary--what other sport can give can give you these.  So sayeth HUGH B. C. POLLARD, September, 1929.  This book with his writings and the colored plates of Phillip Rickman is the best treatise of what game birds and game shooting is about.
